From 'MacSith' to 'Streetcar': 5 things to do this weekend

By day Saturday, you can take the kids or grandkids to lively fests and shows in Vernon Hills, Wheaton or Mount Prospect. And at night, you can take in a classic drama in Crystal Lake or shake up your Shakespeare in McHenry.

Williams on Williams: Williams Street Repertory presents Tennessee Williams' classic drama, “A Streetcar Named Desire,” starting this weekend at Raue Center for the Arts, 26 N. Williams St., Crystal Lake. The tale of Southern belle Blanche, her sister Stella and Stella's volatile husband Stanley opens this weekend and runs through May 10. Wood art: The North Suburban Carvers woodcarving group joins Cantigny Park to present the Artistry in Wood woodcarving and woodworking show at Cantigny, 1S151 Winfield Road, Wheaton. The show features carvings, turnings, wood-burning art and hand-carved ornaments from woodcarvers from across the Midwest. Free with paid $5 parking fee. Extreme Block Party: Enjoy a mix of attractions at the Multi-Chamber Fifth Annual Extreme Block Party in the field house at Vernon Hills High School, 145 Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills. The community event features Dave Dinaso's Traveling World of Reptiles show, more than 100 health and wellness screenings, local vendors, food and more. Post-St. Patty's Day fun: Everyone is Irish for the day at Mount Prospect's annual Irish Fest, at Emerson Street and Busse Avenue in downtown Mount Prospect. The event includes Irish fare and beer, live Irish music, performances by the Tully Irish Dancers, the Sullivan Irish Dancers, the Trinity Irish Dancers, The Dooley Brothers and many others. Foul or fair? May the force be with them as Chicago's E.D.G.E. Theatre and the McHenry High School Theatre Department present the “Star Wars”/Shakespeare mash-up “MacSith” at the West Campus school, 4724 W. Crystal Lake Road, McHenry.
