Are you a garden geek?

The Forest Preserve District of Kane County is calling all green thumbs to volunteer to become a "Creek Bend Garden Geek."

Gardeners are wanted to help in the native plant gardens, about four hours a month, on a schedule of your choice.

The district will provide hands-on training and tools; volunteers need only provide the green thumb.

Tasks include installing new plant material, weeding and cleaning the garden beds, maintaining plant identification tags, and more.

Volunteers must have an interest in gardening and working outdoors and a willingness to get hands dirty and learn basic plant and weed identification. They will assist with planting of new and annual plant materials.

You must be interested in learning and sharing information with the public and staff; be flexible and adapt to changing weather conditions; and work as a team with other volunteers. Volunteers need to be able to bend, kneel and perform digging/lifting; and have the ability to work independently.

To learn more about how you can get involved in this new program, come to the "Garden Geek" volunteer orientation from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at Creek Bend Nature Center, located within LeRoy Oakes at 37W700 Dean St., St. Charles.
