Artists wanted to paint outdoor spring scenes

McHenry County Conservation District is looking for 25 artists to set up along one of many wooded hiking trails and paint the fleeting beauty of the spring wildflowers and scenery of Coral Woods Conservation Area during its "Celebration of Wildflowers and Art" event hosted from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 9.

The Plein Air "PAINT OUT" is planned as part of a public special event that also includes guided wildflower hikes, live music, food vendors, landscaping with native info, and children's planting, painting, and activity stations.

Artwork painted on site can be sold throughout the day and/or submitted for judging the day of the event, as well as have the opportunity to participate in an exhibit at Prairieview Education Center in Crystal Lake in June and July. Artwork will be judged by a fair and impartial party from 3 to 4 p.m. with ribbons awarded to first, second and third place.

A nonrefundable $20 entry fee for all artists must be postmarked by Thursday, April 30. Fee includes lunch.

Interested painters can call Sarah Michehl at smichehl@mccdistrict.org, (815) 678-4532, ext. 8118 for a copy of the prospectus and to answer any questions.
