April 29: CLC sponsors tobacco cessation workshop by expert presenter

Learn how to quit from an expert presenter at tobacco cessation workshops at the College of Lake County on April 29. A pioneering expert in smoking cessation, Carol Southard, will present two one-hour workshops, at 11:45 a.m. and 1 p.m., in the C Wing Auditorium (Room C005), Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St.

The sessions are free and open to the public.

Participants will learn about the power of the nicotine addiction, the benefits of quitting, the successful evidence-based approaches to quitting, nicotine replacement therapies such as bupropion (Zyban) and Varenicline (Chantix) and how to take control a tobacco addition.

Presenter Carol Southard, R.N., M.S.N., is a Certified American Lung Association instructor with over 29 years' experience. She works for Northwestern Medical Group, is a tobacco cessation consultant for Chicago-area hospitals and the Chicago Tobacco Prevention Project and is a published author who has conducted workshops throughout the nation. Southard consults for the American Dental Hygienists' Association Smoking Cessation Initiative and was the first nurse and the first woman to receive the 2012 American Lung Association and Koop Foundation Unsung Heroes in Tobacco Control award.

Because of construction of the new Science and Engineering Building, please enter at the B Wing and park in lot 4 or 5 to access the C Wing.

Sponsoring organizations, the CLC Social Sciences division and Health Center and the Lake County Health Department-Tobacco-free Lake County, will provide cessation resources in the C Wing lower level lobby from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
