Barrington edges Palatine; St. Viator handles Carmel

A resilient effort powered visiting Barrington on Tuesday as the Broncos topped Palatine 9-8 in 8 innings in an MSL West baseball matchup.

Barrington went ahead with a 2-run effort in the top of seventh, only to see the host Pirates tied it up with a 3-run rally in the bottom half before the Broncos pushed across the winning run in the eighth.

The long ball served Barrington (12-6, 3-0), as Anthony Delaurentis, Jacob Chapman, Jake Coon each had 1 homer.

Trace Holloway had 3 hits for Palatine (6-10, 0-3), and Chris Macahon, Nick Orlando and Mitch Dolen each had 2.

Jake Petersen earned a victory in relief for Barrington after pitching two scoreless innings. Casey Dodge drove in the winning run in the eighth on a fielder's choice.

St. Viator 5, Carmel 2: The visiting Lions earned the first East Suburban Catholic Conference win of the year on the road as Kevin Napoleon tossed a complete-game 5 hitter with 9 strikeouts.

Matt Levin had 3 hits, and Dan Sullivan homered and drove in 2 runs for the Lions (12-5, 1-2).

Prospect 15, Wheeling 0 (5 inn.): Knights starter Dan Devereux gave up 1 hit, and the Prospect bats provided plenty of support in MSL East play.

Grant Miller homered and drove in 3 runs, Patrick Donohue doubled and tripled and the Knights (13-4, 2-1) drew a total of 9 walks.

Maine West 19, Highland Park 7: Crosley Duckmann homered twice and drove in 6 runs after a 4-for-5 performance at the plate as the visiting Warriors earned a Central Suburban North victory.

Eric Outlaw doubled twice and also had 4 hits and Maine West (9-6) swiped 8 bases to help make a winner of Tommy Hanson.

Schaumburg 5, Hoffman Estates 2: The Saxons assembled a big inning in the fourth, as two walks, a hit batsman, an error and a base hit plated 3 runs in MSL West play at Hoffman Estates.

Brendan Beck pitched a complete game, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits with 6 strikeouts to earn the victory.

Jeff Mayes doubled with for Hoffman Estates (9-4, 1-2), and Tyler Teele had a double for Schaumburg.

Fremd 8, Conant 5: The host Vikings finished strong, scoring 4 runs in the fifth and 2 more in the sixth to come from behind against the visiting Cougars in MSL West action.

Tom Austin drove in a pair of runs for Fremd, which made the most of 6 hits and drew 8 walks to help J.T. Kolderup pick up a win in relief.

Matt Fauth tripled and went 3-for-4 for Conant, and Jack Lunkes had 2 hits.
