'Donation Drive-Thru' event at United Protestant Church May 16

It's spring cleaning time! Scour your closets, clear your basement shelves and empty your attic! Then bring your boxes to the United Protestant Church of Grayslake parking lot for the first-ever Grayslake Donation Drive-Thru on Saturday, May 16 from 9 a.m. to noon at 54 S. Whitney Street, downtown Grayslake.

Community members are invited to fill their cars with books, clothing, eyeglasses, household items, bikes, sewing machines, sporting equipment, Christmas lights and more and then "drive thru" the parking lot, where volunteers from the church and its Boy Scout Troop 451 will unload your vehicle. The items will be donate to non-profit organizations including Bernie's Book Bank, Elijah's Mantle, Glass Slipper Project, Home of the Sparrow, Lions Club, PADS, Midwest Mission Distribution Center, Sports Shed and others.

"Our church is active with a variety of missions such as being a PADS site and contributing to Operation Christmas Child and our local hospitalized veterans," said Pastor Gary Waters. "But this is the first time we will collect donations for a variety of worthy causes with a drive-through event that makes it easy to donate items."
