Softball: Fox Valley roundup Saturday, April 18

The Dundee-Crown softball team continued its hot start to the season Saturday with a nonconference doubleheader sweep of Thornwood, 15-0 and 21-7.

Freshman Sydney Ruggles had a big day for the Chargers (7-3), pitching all 12 of the innings played and allowing 13 hits with 15 strikeouts and 2 walks. She tossed a 2-hitter in Game 1.

At the plate Ruggles went 8-for-11 with 4 doubles, 2 triples and 5 RBI from the leadoff position.

Deanna Origer also had 8 hits on the day for D-C with 2 doubles and 4 RBI. Andrea Conway drove in 4 runs for the Chargers.

Larkin 10, Westminster Christian 0: Haley Bohne was 2-for-3 with 2 triples and 3 RBI to lead the Royals (2-12) to a nonconference win. Bekah Harrington went 2-for-2 with an RBI and Bella Aguinaga had a double and 2 RBI for Larkin. Sarah Hansen was the winning pitcher, allowing just 2 hits in 5 innings.

Burlington Central splits: At the Fox Valley Invite at West Aurora, the Rockets (7-8) beat Kaneland 3-2 and lost to Yorkville 10-4. Emily Kisch picked up the win and Ashley Ratliff suffered the loss. Kisch also had 4 hits on the day and Kristina Ahlers homered against Yorkville. Amanda Ratliff, Kassy Gaylord and Kacie Neubauer had doubles in the loss.

Fremd 5, Cary-Grove 2: Brianne Prank was 2-for-3 with a double and drove in both runs for the Trojans (5-6) in this nonconference loss. Caitlyn Adams took the pitching loss, allowing just 5 hits and 3 earned runs.

Conant 5, South Elgin 1: Alexa Rogalla and Amber Derr had doubles for the Storm (6-9) in their nonconference loss. Allison Kaiser was the losing pitcher.
