River Bandits rally past Cougars

DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Quad Cities River Bandits rallied with 2 late runs to beat the Kane County Cougars 2-1 at Modern Woodmen Park on Saturday.

Starter Markus Solbach of the Cougars (3-7) had not given up a run this season in 12⅓ innings, but that streak was snapped when Kristian Trompiz of the River Bandits (8-2) hit a game-tying homer in the seventh inning. In the inning, the Cougars' Colin Bray caught a flyball in foul territory, slammed into the fence and tumbled onto the concourse. Jency Solis came on in relief of Solbach and stranded runners at second and third to keep the 1-1 tie.

In the eighth, Sean McMullen hit a one-out double, stole third base and scored what proved to be the winning run on a groundout.

The Cougars scored in the second when Victor Reyes drove home Steve McQuail with a two-out single.

Keegan Yuhl (1-0) faced one over the minimum through 3 no-hit innings of relief. Jose Montero earned his second save of the season.

The series continues today when the Cougars' Brent Jones (0-1, 4.38 ERA) faces Brock Dykxhoorn (1-0, 0.00) at 1:15 p.m.
