Baseball: Fox Valley roundup Saturday, April 18

Hampshire 8, St. Edward 5: The Whip-Purs jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead but needed 4 in the seventh to complete a nonconference comeback win. Tyler Schutt (2-for-3, 2B, RBI) and Nick Mohlman (2 RBI) paced Hampshire (9-5) while St. Edward (5-8) received a double by Jake LaFrenz (2 RBI) and an RBI from Joe Esposito.

Dundee-Crown 4, Woodstock 3 (10 inn.): The Chargers (12-5) needed a walk-off sacrifice fly in the 10th inning off the bat of Michael Cruise (2-for-5, RBI) for a Fox Valley Conference crossover win. Brett Johnson (2B), Danny Denz (2B) and Patrick Harvey (3B, 2 RBI) had 2 hits each.

Jacobs 6, Grayslake North 4: Stevie Krueger's sixth-inning RBI single gave the Golden Eagles (16-3) the lead for good in an FVC crossover win. Krueger went 2-for-3 with a run scored while Ryan Sargent (2 RBI), Daniel Tenayuca (2B), Jeff Sidor (2B, RBI) and Matt Kozlak (2-for-3, 3B) spotted the offense for pitcher Ryan George to get the win and Evan Liebau to notch the save.

CL South 11, Woodstock North 1 (6 inn.): Nick Van Witzenburg (3-for-5, 2B, 2 RBI) and Michael Swiatly (2-for-4, 3 RBI) accounted for nearly half the offense in an FVC crossover win for the Gators (13-2). Cameron Geisser (2-for-4) and Mike Avella (RBI) each had doubles while pitcher Matt Schingel allowed 1 unearned run on 3 hits, no walks and 4 strikeouts for the win.

Harvest, Elgin Academy split: The Hilltoppers held on to a 4-3 5-inning Game 1 win behind a double and 2 RBI from Ian Wilson. Andrew Wilson was also went 2-for-2 with an RBI. In Game 2, Harvest Christian came back from a 7-6 deficit in the sixth with 3 runs in the final 2 innings for a 9-7 win. Dominic Olech (1 hit, 3 RBI), Drew Lewis (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI), Dylan Lockwood (2B) and Chad Jakel (2B) helped the Lions (2-7) offensively.

Barrington 16, Burlington Central 6: Central (12-3) lost its 3-2 lead in the second inning when the Broncos scored 5 in their half and Barrington continued with 3 in each inning thereafter for the nonconference win. Brenden Bushy (RBI) and Tanner Smith each doubled while Avery Moore and Killian Vascica had 2 RBI apiece for BC.

Stillman Valley 9, Westminster Christian 3: The Warriors (7-9) lost their second-straight in nonconference action despite Frank Angiulo's triple and 2 RBI from Tyler Mamrot (2-for-4). Westminster trailed 8-3 after 3 innings and was outhit 11-5. Nathan Martinez (9 H, 8 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3K) suffered the loss.

Prairie Ridge 12, Huntley 4: The Red Raiders (5-10) were outhit 17-7 in their FVC crossover loss, as PR had at least 7 batters log at least 2 hits each. Brandon Meyer led Huntley with 2 hits while Joe Rizzo, Jake Liebman and Brian Wiggins each had RBI.

Sycamore 4, Larkin 0: The Royals (4-9) were limited to 1 hit in a nonconference loss to the Spartans. Nick Filmore, despite giving up just 4 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts, suffered the loss on the mound.

Schaumburg 9, Streamwood 0: The Sabres mustered just 4 hits in a nonconference shutout by the Saxons. Jose Aguilar had 2 hits for Streamwood (3-10), which saw Jr Alvarez get roughed up for 9 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits, 1 walk and 1 strikeout.
