Elgin man, 20, found dead of gunshots near Festival Park
Elgin police are seeking answers in the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man early Saturday morning.
Daniel Figueroa of Elgin was found dead with gunshot wounds just before 3 a.m. at Prairie Street and Grove Avenue.
Police were called to the area, which is near Festival Park, to check out a disturbance.
"They discovered Mr. Figueroa lying on the ground near the river," Elgin police Cmdr. Colin Fleury said. Police do not think the shooting occurred in the park.
The city's Major Investigations Division is leading the investigation.
"We're following up on a bunch of leads," Fleury said.

If classified as a murder, it would be Elgin's first of 2015.
The Kane County coroner's office will conduct an autopsy Monday.
