Order a rain barrel

The Land Conservancy of McHenry County will offer high quality, 55-gallon rain barrels at a great price.

Premium, food-grade recycled polyethylene barrels are available in black, gray, blue or terra cotta starting at $69. Pickup is in mid-May in Woodstock or Algonquin.

Order your rain barrels by calling the office at (815) 337-9502 or visiting www.conservemc.org. Tumbling and stationary composters are also available, starting at $129 and $87.

Barrels have a mesh screen on top to keep mosquitoes out, and two locations possible for the spigot. Barrels can be connected in series using a hose, purchased separately, to increase the amount of rainwater saved. Outdoor watering in summer can be up to 70 percent of household water use. Only a quarter-inch of rainfall runoff from the average roof will completely fill a typical 55 gallon barrel.

Pick up for rain barrels and composters will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 15 and 16, at TLC's office in Woodstock, 4622 Dean St., and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, May 15, at the Ganek Municipal Center, 2200 Harnish Drive in Algonquin. Or arrange a different pick up time in Algonquin by calling (847) 658-4184. The price for a barrel with an Algonquin pick up is $74.

The Land Conservancy of McHenry County also has a limited number of rain barrels in stock for $69 that are ready for pick up at the Woodstock location, 4622 Dean St. Available colors are gray, green and espresso brown. Order your rain barrels for pickup today at www.conservemc.org or by calling (815) 337-9502.
