Nearly perfect no-hitter for Hoffman Estates' Ward
Hoffman Estates senior Ryan Ward flirted with perfection, coming just one out away from a perfect game in Mid-Suburban League baseball as the host Hawks topped Wheeling 8-0 on Friday.
Ward still finished with a complete-game no-hitter, striking out five and walking one.
Matt Roesch and Ward doubled, and Jeff Mayes did so twice as Hoffman Estates finished with 11 hits and played error-free defense behind Ward.
Brandon Harris, Devin Willis, Mayes and Ward each had 2 hits for the Hawks (9-3).
Fremd 3, Rolling Meadows 0: Vikings senior Mack Rosman struck out 12 and allowed 1 hit in 5 innings, and teammate Alex Stremel tossed a pair of scoreless relief innings to power host Fremd.
Kaz Higuchi had 3 hits out of the leadoff spot and Ethan Hajdukovic had 2 hits as Fremd (7-6) out-hit the Mustangs 9-2.
Elk Grove 10, Schaumburg 4: Brandon Post finished 4-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI to power a 16-hit attack for the visiting Grenadiers.
Austin Shallcross had 3 of them, including a double, and Christian Camacho, Check Fleming, Sean Fege and Jack McEnroe had 2 hits apiece to help make a winner of starter Jonathan Maday (6 IP, 3 earned runs) as Elk Grove improved to 9-3 overall.
Andrew Ralston, Christian Poulsen and Jacob Rintz each had 2 hits for the Saxons.
Barrington 15, Hersey 2 (5 inn.): Luke Johnson and Anthony DeLaurentis homered to help the Broncos' hit-happy attack.

Palatine 12, Buffalo Grove 1 (6 inn.): Matthew Lamm had a pair of doubles and drove in 4 runs to power the host Pirates.
Nick Orlando homered and drove in 2 runs as Palatine finished the game early by producing a 6-run sixth inning.
Patrick Seeberger was sharp on the mound for the Pirates (6-7), allowing 2 hits and striking out five.
Leyden 9, Addison Trail 6: Zac Seymore doubled and later earned a save as the visiting Blazers won to improve to 6-1 in the
West Suburban Gold (7-6 overall). Starter Michael Wilms allowed 2 runs in 4⅓ innings to earn the victory.
