St. Luke's in Montgomery invites all to community worship Sunday

Area residents are invited to a first community worship service at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 63 Fernwood Road, Montgomery.

The Rev. Peter Hoffman, pastor, said "This is a special service of celebration and thanksgiving for all the wonderful things God has done for our church and school.

"It also anticipates all the exciting things that will be happening in the months to come."

"We Are Called" is the theme of the special service, added to 8 and 10:45 a.m. Sunday services and a 5:30 p.m. Saturday service.

"The congregation and school families are uniting and inviting the community to join in," Hoffman said.

"We have discovered that it's important to be in fellowship with one another, and with the communities of Montgomery, Oswego and Aurora that we serve," he said.

The service will feature Hoffman's homily, "We Are Called - Through Prayer."

Music will be provided by a praise team, adult choir and St. Luke's schoolchildren from kindergarten through eighth grades.

Students and church members will light a series of six candles symbolizing the six days of creation. Pianist Steve McGraw will lead a three-song praise medley. The youth choir will sing a benediction to close the service.

The event will close with guided tours of the church and school.

St. Luke's Lutheran Church was founded in 1957 as a daughter congregation of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Aurora as part of its centennial celebration. The new congregation initially was called the Oswego Area Lutheran Mission.

St. Luke's School, founded as a preschool in 1972, now serves 107 prekindergarten to eighth grade students.
