Grayslake Middle School holds second annual St. Baldrick's Fundraiser

Grayslake, IL - Each year Grayslake Middle School students and staff participate in many community service projects. This year they are holding their second annual St. Baldrick's Fundraiser to help raise funds for childhood cancer research. This year's fundraiser is especially poignant for the Grayslake community after the death of Park Campus third grade student A.J. Peterson from diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, an embedded, inoperable cancerous tumor in the brainstem.

Last year Grayslake Middle School staff, students and community members were able to raise over $6,100 for the St. Baldrick's Foundation. Approximately 40 people had their head shaved, or haircut to help others. This year the event is open to the public with an evening event to go along with the school celebration which includes an all-school assembly in the morning. The school is hoping to raise $15,000 during this year's event which takes place Friday, April 17, 2015.

Posters are appearing in local restaurants and businesses, raffle items are also being donated by the local community, and monetary donations can be made online at the GMS St. Baldrick's event page: https://www.stbaldricks.org/events/gmsmakeyourmark2015

Many teams and individuals have already signed up to have their heads shaves or hair cut, and GMS has raised 17% of their goal. The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. Government. St. Baldrick's website encourages everyone to "get involved and you'll be giving hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers."
