Baseball: Fox Valley roundup Thursday, April 16

Bartlett 11, East Aurora 8: The Hawks jumped to an 8-0 lead, began substituting liberally and hung on to complete the sweep of this 3-game Upstate Eight Valley series. The Hawks won their seventh straight by working six pitchers, including starter Vince Searson, who pitched 2 scoreless innings with a walk and a strikeout to get the win. Offensively, Tripp Paris went 3-for-5 with a double and 2 RBI, Scott Palmer (RBI) was 4-for-4 and scored twice and Austin Hilvert tripled and drove in 3 runs for Bartlett (9-3, 6-0).

Waubonsie Valley 7, South Elgin 4: The Warriors (9-3, 5-1) took the rubber game of this Upstate Eight Valley series by scoring 6 earned runs on 6 hits and 4 walks against South Elgin starting pitcher Joey Roberson, who lasted 3⅓ innings. Winning pitcher Jacob Hennessy limited the Storm (7-2, 4-2) to 4 earned runs on 6 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings, and Quinton Zielke pitched 2 scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts to register the save. Kyle Hays (double) and Justin Howard each had 2 hits for South Elgin.

St. Charles East 4, Elgin 0: Scotty Palmer limited the Saints to 4 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits, walked 1 and struck out 4, but the Saints shut out the Maroons for the third straight day to complete the Upstate Eight River sweep. Winning pitcher Kyle Cook allowed 5 hits and a walk and struck out 6 in 7 innings. Palmer had 2 of the 5 hits for Elgin (5-10, 2-4).

Burlington Central 5, Richmond-Burton 3: Andrew Wiss' solo home run tied this Big Northern East game 2-2 in the fifth inning and Central (12-1, 5-0) scored 3 more times in the frame via Jake Johnson's RBI single and Killian Vasica's 2-run double to take control. Sophomore starting pitcher Dylan Berry limited the damage from 9 hits to only 2 earned runs by issuing no walks and striking out 4. Brenden Bushy got the win in 2⅔ relief innings. He struck out the potential tying run to end the game.

St. Edward 10, Walther Christian 0 (5 inn.): The Green Wave erupted for 8 first-inning runs and Patrick Costello allowed 1 hit and 4 walks and struck out 8 in this Metro Suburban West win. Leadoff hitter Alex Lara doubled, walked, scored twice and drove in 2 runs and Gino Domel went 2-for-2 with 2 runs and 2 RBI for St. Edward (4-7, 3-4).

Westminster Christian 26, IMSA 0: The Warriors outhit the Titans 21-1 and Mason Runkel pitched 3 scoreless innings to lift the Warriors. Peter Hahn was 3-for-3 with 3 doubles, 3 runs and 2 RBI to place Westminster Christian (7-7).

Elgin Academy 16, Morgan Park Academy 5 (6 inn.): The Hilltoppers scored 11 runs in the top of the sixth to abbreviate this Independent School League road win. Jonathan Cruz went 5-for-5 with a double and 2 triples, Gannon Cottone tripled and doubled and Ian Wilson hit a home run for Elgin Academy (3-5, 1-3). Patrick Westerhoff picked up the win after allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 3 hit, walking 2 and striking out 6 in 6 innings.

Crystal Lake South 2, Hampshire 1 (11 inn.): In the continuation of a Fox Valley Conference crossover game that was suspended on April 7 with the score tied 1-1 in the top of the 10th inning, Garrett Bright reached base on an error with one out in the 11th, stole second and scored on junior Cameron Geisser's walk-off single up the middle. Matt Schingel pitched 2 scoreless innings to earn the win for CL South (12-2, 3-1). Kyle Rutkowski was touched for the unearned run in the loss for Hampshire (7-5, 1-4).
