Kubin paces a Lake Zurich victory

Rebecca Kubin scored both goals for Lake Zurich's girls soccer team Thursday night, as the host Bears edged Maine South 2-1 in the PepsiCo Showdown.

Nicole Rasiarmos assisted on Kubin's first-half goal, and Erin Neeson earned the assist on Kubin's tiebreaking goal midway through the second half. Keeper Elly Daleske made 5 saves, as the Bears improved to 7-2-1.

"Our players have been working really hard lately," Lake Zurich coach Mike Castronova said. "We are getting a lot of movement up top, and our defense - led by Blair Coughenour, Maggie Tuckey, Meagan Bens and Lexi Miranda - played very well. Our mids - led by Madeline Blasko, Erin Neeson and Katie Fabbrini - have been controlling possession for us and are connecting very well with our forwards. We've been focusing on playing hard for 80 minutes, and it's been working well for us the past few games."

Libertyville 1, Evanston 0: Taylor Underwood scored in the opening half on an assist from Maddie Olsen, and the host Wildcats made the goal stand up in the PepsiCo Showdown contest.

Laura Janousek made 5 saves in net for Libertyville (5-1, 2-1 tournament).

Vernon Hills 2, Crystal Lake South 1: Kaitlin Gramins had a goal and an assist for the host Cougars in their PepsiCo Showdown game.

Kristen Guglielmi also scored for Vernon Hills (4-5).

Wauconda 5, Round Lake 0: Erica Miller scored 3 goals for the Bulldogs in their North Suburban Prairie match.

Yulissa Solis and Kayla Meyer also scored for Wauconda (6-1-1).

Grant 10, North Chicago 0: Sophia Richards, Veronica Palma and Jenna Pecorini each scored twice for the Bulldogs in their North Suburban Prairie match. Sarah Ramirez, Emily Miles, Marissa Allen and Leah Nehila also scored.

Meghan Murray had 2 assists. Miles, Pecorini, Lexi Werve, Brett Aichholzer, Savanah Barnes and Brittany Kolle also assisted on goals. Werve and Murray shared the shutout in goal.

Stevenson 4, Glenbrook North 3: Emma Jaeger scored twice for the Patriots, who rallied from a 2-1 deficit

Caroline Dempsey added a goal and an assist, and Rachel Takaroff also scored. Courtney Bruckman, Cassie Farber and Kyra Kirsh contributed assists.

Loyola 5, Warren 0: The Ramblers scored all of their goals in the first half.

Warren fell to 2-4-1.
