'Avenue Q' opens April 16 at Buffalo Grove High School

Buffalo Grove High School's spring musical, "Avenue Q: School Edition," is a PG-13 adaptation of the hit Broadway show.

The musical is on stage Thursday-Saturday, April 16-18 in the school's theater, 1100 W. Dundee Road, Buffalo Grove. Showtimes are 7 p.m. Thursday; 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The Broadway hit, with equal parts puppetry, comedy and a great musical score, has been adapted for the school stage from the original production, which won the 2004 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Book.

Mature themes are still explored, but the "School Edition" is decidedly more "teen-friendly" while preserving its original integrity.

On Avenue Q, sunny days don't necessarily sweep the clouds away. Twentysomethings are often struggling to find their place in the world, while dealing with the stress of securing jobs and making relationships work. The characters eventually learn to discover, accept and own who they are.
