Two charged with vending machine burglaries in Elgin

Two Indiana man were charged with burglarizing hotel vending machines in Elgin, police said.

Jason McCaslin, 40, of the 400 block of Stone Road in Munster, and Russell Miller, 24, of Crown Point, were arrested about 11:20 p.m. Tuesday at the Hampton Inn on the 400 block of Airport Road, Police Cmdr. Colin Fleury said.

The pair were charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools, police said.

Both men appeared Thursday morning in Kane County bond court, where McCaslin's bail was set at $50,000 and Miller's bail was set at $20,000.

Fleury said witnesses recognized the men from previous burglaries to the hotel's vending machines and watched them until officers arrived.

Police also recognized both men from surveillance footage from multiple other burglaries to vending machines at at least two Elgin hotels, Fleury said.

Police are looking into whether there is any connection to burglaries committed in other towns, he said.
