Palatine's Women in Business forum offers scholarships

Palatine Chamber networking group offering scholarship for females at Palatine and Fremd high schools

Submitted by Joan Scovic, Women in Business Advisory Forum

The Women in Business Advisory Forum, a networking group of the Palatine Area Chamber of Commerce, is pleased to be able to award two $1,000 scholarships this year. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide nonrenewable awards to be used for college tuition, fees, books, or supplies. Two awards will be given: one to a student from Fremd High School and one to a student from Palatine High School.

To apply, students can visit palatinechamber.com and select WIBAF Scholarship under the Chamber tab. Required materials include the completed 2015 scholarship application form, a noncertified copy of the student's transcript, and two letters of recommendation. The application form includes questions about business coursework, clubs and activities, service and volunteer roles, and a choice of short answer questions.

Funds for the scholarship were raised through a wine-tasting fundraiser, prize drawings at monthly networking lunches, water and pop sales at the Chamber's Rockin' the Blocks event, and through a raffle offered at the annual Palatine Area Chamber of Commerce Key to Success awards dinner.

WIBAF is an active group of business women who are interested in learning and networking with one another while discussing business related topics. Monthly meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month from noon to 1:30 p.m. Meetings include featured member presentations and organized presentations of business topics, along with time for networking with other members in attendance. In addition, members also have an opportunity to periodically profile their business in a 10-15 minute presentation. Non-chamber members are invited to join the group as guests for up to two visits. The fee to attend each WIBAF luncheon networking meeting is $12-$15 per person. Preregistration is required and can be completed online each month at palatinechamber.com. For information, contact one of the group's co-chairs, Joan Scovic, (847) 496-6287 or jscovic@palatineparks.org; or Julie Selof, (847) 496-6246 or jselof@palatineparks.org.
