Softball: Fox Valley roundup Wednesday, April 15

Rachel Weiss tossed a 4-hitter and Bailey McClure's single drove in the game-winning runs in the top of the seventh inning as South Elgin downed West Chicago 2-1 Wednesday in Upstate Eight Conference crossover softball action.

Weiss struck out 5 and didn't walk a batter as the Storm improved to 6-7 overall and 4-2 in the UEC.

Stacy Bellack had 2 hits for South Elgin, which also got singles from Cassidy Westlund, Hannah Gordon and Taylor Ford on her 18th birthday.

Hampshire 5, Woodstock North 0: Haley Widmayer allowed just 3 hits and had 10 strikeouts and no walks as Hampshire snapped an 8-game losing streak by opening Fox Valley Conference Fox Division play with a win. Lauren Egger (2 RBI) and Widmayer (RBI) each had doubles for the Whip-Purs (3-10, 1-0) and Aly Snider also drove in a run.

McHenry 13, Cary-Grove 0: Molly MacDuff, Brianne Prank and Alyssa Gurgone had the Trojans' only hits in this FVC Valley loss. Amanda DeGroote suffered the loss in the circle for Cary-Grove (4-5, 0-1).

Glenbard East 17, Larkin 7: Ciara Alonso was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Haley Bohne went 3-for-3 with 3 RBI for the Royals (1-10, 1-4) in the Upstate Eight. Megan Chwee added 2 hits for Larkin and Jordan Dick was the losing pitcher.

Streamwood 10, East Aurora 0: Rebecca Daley was the winning pitcher and had a home run as the Sabres (4-9, 1-4) broke a 9-game losing skid with this UEC win. Jessica Daley and Rebecca Roncone had doubles for Streamwood.

West Aurora 5, Elgin 1: Jessica Rago was 2-for-3 with a home run for the Maroons (1-11, 1-4) in the Upstate Eight. Madison Latham added a double for Elgin and Rago was the losing pitcher. She struck out 8 and walked 1.
