Take-charge effort from Llorens, Grayslake Central

David Llorens struck out a season-high 13 batters, and Grayslake Central's baseball team pounded out 12 hits in an 8-1 road victory over St. Viator in nonconference action Wednesday.

Grayslake Central's Jeff Terronez broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with a 3-run double and added another base hit. Anthony Fitzgerald had a double, single and 2 RBI for the Rams, while Jay Hoffman, Sam Nozicka, Ben Fitzgerald and Greg Gauger also had 2 hits apiece.

Llorens allowed only 1 hit through 6 innings with only 1 walk. Griffin Edwards tossed a scoreless seventh with 2 strikeouts.

"Great win against a great program," Rams coach Troy Whalen said. "Not many teams come into Viator and get wins. The boys came to play today, and David was as sharp as I've ever seen him. He competed on every pitch and it was nice to see the bats give him the support."

Dundee-Crown 5, Grayslake North 2: Merrick Gentile and Danny Yates each had 2 hits for the host Knights in their Fox Valley Conference loss.

Drake Isaacs was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI for Grayslake North.

Wauconda 12, Round Lake 2: Brian McFarlin was 3-for-3 with 2 doubles to lead the host Bulldogs to the North Suburban Prairie win.

Trevor Sefcik also doubled for Wauconda (6-5), while Luke Weller went 2-for-3. Kyle Harmon pitched all 5 innings for the win, allowing 4 hits and striking out four.

Vernon Hills 3, Antioch 1: Ben Geren threw a complete game, allowing only 3 hits, as the visiting Cougars knocked off the Sequoits for the second day in a row in North Suburban Prairie action.

Geren was backed by solid defense, as the Cougars had only 1 error. On the offensive side, Vernon Hills (8-5, 2-2) made the most of 4 Sequoits errors. Joey Marras had 2 hits and an RBI in the win, while Drew Winegardner scored a pair of runs.

Antioch (4-9, 2-2) got doubles from Dominic Olesak and John Neville.

Lake Forest 4, Libertyville 1: Tim Calamari doubled for the visiting Wildcats, who had only 4 hits in the North Suburban Lake game.

Stevenson 4, New Trier 4: The Patriots and Trevians settled for a tie after nine innings in the nonconference game.

Willie Bourbon (1-for-3) and Patrick Loeffler (2-for-4, 2 RBI) doubled for Stevenson.
