Schaumburg tops Buffalo Grove

In the most dramatic Mid-Suburban League softball game on Wednesday, Schaumburg won its third conference game in as many days with a 2-1 decision over visiting Buffalo Grove.

Junior Paige Alt fired a 2-hitter with 8 strikeouts to improve to 5-0. She also had an RBI single.

The Saxons' other run was a home run by Elaine Walker (1-for-2).

Other hits for Schaumburg (8-1, 2-1) were from Shannon Felde (1-for-3), Christina Candotti (1-for-3) and Natalie Napier (1-for-2).

Caitlin Catino homered for BG's run while Bison pitcher Julia Camardo (7-1) had the team's (7-2, 1-1) other hit.

Palatine 10, Prospect 1 (6 innings): Freshman Maddie Craver threw a 2-hitter with 6 strikeouts for the host Pirates (4-8, 1-2) who got their first MSL win under coach Nicole Pauly.

Craver, who is also batting .541, allowed no earned runs. She also had 1 hit and a stolen base.

Leading the Pirates' offense were Brooke Bauer (2-for-3, home run, 4 RBI), Ellie Kozlowski (2-for-2, double, 2 RBI, walk), Emily Griffin (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Nora Walsh (3-for-4, stolen base), Cassie Kerlin (2-for-3, triple, 2 RBI) and Reggie Much (1-for-2).

Much also scored the game-ending run against the Knights (3-5, 0-2).

Much started the sixth inning with a double. Craver then hit a line drive in the gap to make it first and third. Craver stole second and scored on Nora Walsh's short spinning blooper that landed between the pitcher and the shortstop.

Hoffman Estates 12, Rolling Meadows 2 (5 inn): Sophomore Brynn Connelly (2-for-4, 2 doubles), senior Caitlyn Farina (2-for-3, double) and junior Valerie Olsen (2-for-3) were multiple hitters for the host Hawks (7-5, 1-1), who also received a triple from junior Jordyn Fera and a double from freshman Giselle Velazquez.

Freshman Mary Bean was 1-for-2 with 2 hit-by-pitches for Hoffman. Tracy Osimowicz (6-2) earned the win, tossing a 3-hitter with 3 strikeouts.

Mallory King (double), Paige Connor and Elianna Psarros had the hits for Meadows (1-9, 0-2).

Barrington 11, Wheeling 0 (5 inn): Liz Sweeney (1-for-1, sacrifice fly, walk) belted a home run for host Barrington (11-3, 2-0) as senior Keenan Dolezal (10-3) pitched three innings with 8 strikeouts and 1 hit to earn the win.

Catherine McMahon went the final 2 innings, striking out five and allowing 1 hit by Wheeling (0-6, 0-2).

Other offensive leaders for Barrington were Rachel Krzysko (2-for-3, triple, 2 RBI), Nicole Chapman (2-for-2, double, 3 RBI) and Kelly Katis (2-for-3, double, 3 runs). Teammate Rachel Macdonald also had a double.

Conant 12, Hersey 2 (5 inn): Dream Aaron (2-for-3, 2 doubles, 3 RBI, 2 run) and Sara Neuman (2-for-3, double, 3 RBI, 1 run) were multiple hitters for host Conant (8-1, 2-0), which also received triples from Lauren Grzelak and Rachel Falbo.

Sophomore Sam Gadomski (3-0) earned the win, striking out four and allowing 5 hits in five innings.

Anna Johnson (2-for-2, 1 run), and Katie Wingerter (2-for-3, double, RBI) led Hersey (4-7, 0-2).

Nazareth 5, St. Viator 1: St. Viator pitcher Krystal Harris had 2 hits while teammate Jenna Breslin had a double.

The Lions scored their only run in the sixth when Olivia Michalik drove in Haley Robinson.
