Boys water polo: Northwest roundup

Conant's boys water polo team managed to weather a tough battle with Schaumburg as Cody Yeiser had a team-best 7 goals to help the Cougars prevail in Mid-Suburban West play Wednesday.

The match featured a grand total of 31 ejections.

Connor Schmitz had 5 goals for Conant (11-1, 6-1), and Braden Lamore had 3.

James Birriel paced Schaumburg (10-10, 2-5) with 8 goals, followed by Tyler Gustafson (5) and Jack Pyde (2).

Hersey 6, Buffalo Grove 4: Jake Hall (3 goals) and David Kuntz (2) led the scoring effort as visiting Hersey (7-7, 4-3) picked up an MSL East triumph. Four players scored 1 apiece for Buffalo Grove (5-11, 2-5).

Barrington 17, Fremd 8: The Broncos solidified their hold on the Mid-Suburban West lead with a victory over the Vikings. Barrington remains unbeaten at 16-0 overall and 7-0 in the division, while Fremd dropped to 9-6, 4-3.

Palatine 14, Hoffman Estates 7: A 5-goal, 3-assist effort from Ryan Schlaiss helped the host Pirates in MSL West play. Marcus Carter-Buckman (3 goals) and Ivan Turkan (2) also tallied for Palatine (4-9, 2-5), while Jacob Baran denied any scoring from the 2-meter set and Jake Conrad stopped 5 shots.

Jacob Pasaye paced the Hawks with 5 goals and Joey Smiley had 2.
