Prospect edges Hersey in 9 innings

Trey Compton's single in the ninth inning drove home Grant Miller with what proved to be the winning run as Prospect worked extra innings to pick up its first Mid-Suburban East baseball win with a 2-1, 9-inning victory at Hersey on Wednesday.

Pasquale Atteo (4⅓ innings, 1 earned run) and Dan Devereux (4⅔ innings, no hits) were strong on the mound for Prospect (11-3, 1-1). Lucas Karz (2 hits) had an RBI single in the fourth inning before Hersey (2-7-1, 1-1) got its run in the fifth.

Fremd 5, Hoffman Estates 2: The host Vikings trailed 2-1 after the fourth inning but scored in the fifth and sixth to earn a split with the Hawks in MSL West play.

Cody Patenaude doubled and had 2 hits for Fremd (6-6, 1-1). Other Vikes with 2 hits included Tom Austin, J.T. Kolderup and Joe Uhrich.

The 2 runs allowed by Fremd starter Dan Pinderski were unearned, and Ian Bohn pitched a hitless seventh to earn a save.

Jeff Mayes and C.J. Conway doubled for Hoffman Estates, which had a total of 4 hits.

Elk Grove 7, Rolling Meadows 2: Michael Parisi pitch 5 strong innings as host Elk Grove played error-free defense and got plenty of production from its bats to take a second straight from Rolling Meadows in Mid-Suburban East baseball Wednesday.

Chuck Fleming homered and drove in 2 runs for the Grens (8-3, 2-0), Taylor O'Connor had 2 hits (including a double) and leadoff man Matt Wary had 2 hits and scored twice.

Manny Zervos hit a solo homer for Rolling Meadows.

Conant 5, Palatine 2: The visiting Pirates out-hit the Cougars 9-5 but couldn't overcome 4 errors as Conant claimed victory in MSL West play.

Matt Fauth had a pair of hits for Conant (7-4, 2-0), which got a well-pitched game from Ryan Roberts in a complete-game win. He allowed 9 hits but only one of them went for extra bases, a double by Nick Orlando of Palatine (5-7, 0-2).

Buffalo Grove 8, Wheeling 7: The host Bison produced a 5-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning and were able to hang on against the Wildcats to split their two MSL East games this week.

Top performers at the plate for BG included Joey Pinakidis (2-for-2, double), Trey Cervantes (2 hits) and Mike Kleczynski (2-for-2, double, 3 RBI).

Wheeling's Alex Khatcherian finished 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Jake Jordan also had 3 hits, and Brenden Spillane and Christian Hubbard had 2 apiece.

Maine West 11, Addison Trail 1 (5 inn.): Eric Outlaw doubled twice and drove in 3 runs to lead an impressive offensive effort from the host Warriors in nonconference play.

Joe Swanson doubled and had 3 hits, Crosley Duckmann had 3 hits and score twice and Jake Riportella, Sean Russel and John Meyer had 2 hits apiece as Maine West (7-5) produced 17 hits.

Tommy Hanson allowed 4 hits to pick up the victory.

Grayslake Central 8, St. Viator 1: David Llorens struck out a season-high 13 batters, and Grayslake Central's baseball team pounded out 12 hits in an 8-1 road victory over St. Viator in nonconference action.
