'Tarzan' swings into Naperville Central

"Tarzan," a musical based on Disney's animated adventure, will step into the spotlight next week at Naperville Central High School.

Featuring the music of Phil Collins ("You'll Be In My Heart," "Two Worlds") and a book by Tony Award-winning playwright David Henry Hwang, the show will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 24-25, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at the school, 440 W. Aurora Ave.

The story opens with an infant boy who is washed up on the shores of West Africa and taken in and raised by gorillas who name him Tarzan

Apart from striving for acceptance from his ape father, Tarzan's life is mostly monkey business until a human expedition treks into his tribe's territory and he encounters creatures like himself for the first time.

Tarzan struggles to navigate a jungle thick with emotion as he discovers his animal upbringing clashing with his human instincts.

Tickets for adults are $10 for reserved seating or $6 for general admission and are available from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside the school's front entrance, at the door for all performances, or by calling (630) 420-6834 or emailing cparry@naperville203.org.

Tickets for students and seniors are $8 for reserved seating or $6 for general admission.
