Library Highlights Famous Author Romances and Magic In Upcoming Programs

Programs about literary love and magic are coming to the Schaumburg Township District Library in April as part of the National Library Week Celebration, "Magical Possibilities @ Your Library." Both programs are free, require registration, and take place at the Central Library, 130 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg.

"Literary Lovers" will feature the lives and relationships of three acclaimed authors from 7-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 14, in the Rasmussen South Room on the library's second floor. Audience members will take a virtual journey into the works and romances of F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, Lillian Hellman and Dashiell Hammett, and Dorothy Thompson and Sinclair Lewis. Presenters Annette Baldwin and Charles Bernstein will portray how the works of these writers were infused with the objects of their affections. Discover more about Baldwin on her website at staginghistory.com.

"Discovery of Magic" will be held from 7-8:30 p.m., Thursday, April 16, in the Adult Classroom, also on the second floor. Author and magician William Pack will reveal a secret world of colorful characters and amusing adventures as he recreates baffling magic tricks. A Chicago native, Pack has more than 30 years of performing experience and spent 13 years demonstrating magic at Navy Pier. He is internationally recognized as "The Chicago Magic Expert" and wrote five books on magic history. Pack has won numerous awards for his magic and comedy performances, and in 2001 taught actor Will Smith sleight of hand for his portrayal of Muhammad Ali in the film, "Ali." Learn more about Pack on his website at williampack.com.

"Literary Lovers" and "Discover of Magic" both require registration. To register for these free programs, call (847) 923-3347 or visit the library's Information Desk.

Preceding the William Pack program, the library will host "Community Book Night" from 4-6 p.m. in the lobby. Library visitors are invited to choose a book for free from a selection hand-picked by librarians. All ages are invited to stop by the book table and talk with librarians about books, authors and genres. No registration or fee is required for participating in "Community Book Night."
