Naperville Park District seeks spring cleanup volunteers

Naperville Park District is looking for community volunteers who are willing to help spruce up parks after a long winter.

Corporate groups, Scout troops, churches, high school environmental clubs, neighborhoods, families and other community groups are welcome to participate. Park maintenance tasks include litter pick up, weeding, mulching, removing twigs, and other activities.

"Earth Day is April 22, but with all of the volunteer projects planned this spring, we really are stretching Earth Day into Earth Month," said Lynnette Hoole, volunteer coordinator.

Some of the parks especially in need of assistance include the following: Baileywood Park, 1588 Oxford Lane; Brighton Ridge Park, 775 Torrington Drive; Burlington Park, 1003 Douglas Ave.; Carol Acres Park, 787 Fort Hill Drive; Country Lakes Park, 1835 North Aurora Road; DuPage River Park, 808 Royce Road; DuPage River Sports Complex, 2807 S. Washington St.; Frontier Sports Complex, 3380 Cedar Glade Drive; Gartner Park, 524 W. Gartner Road; Harris Fawell Park, 1120 Fort Hill Drive; Pioneer Park, 1212 S. Washington St.; Seager Park, 1163 Plank Road; Springbrook Crossings, 1211 Leverenz Road; Weigand Riverfront Park. 2436 S. Washington St.; and Wildflower Park, 2122 Aurora Ave.

Volunteers may register to help with any of the above projects or schedule a project at another park by contacting Lynnette Hoole at lhoole@napervilleparks.org or calling (630) 848-3606.

Additionally, the park district is planning a Riverwalk Spring Spruce Up Day from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 25. A small group of up to 15 adult and/or high school volunteers is needed to help spread mulch around trees near the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion west of Centennial Beach.

Another one-day volunteer event will take place at both Springbrook and Naperbrook golf courses from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 16. Youth and adult volunteers are needed to assist in planting flowers and seasonal plantings in front of the golf course club houses and parking lots. Tools, flowers and instructions will be provided.
