Celebrate Earth Day with family activities in Lindenhurst

The Lindenhurst Environmental Commission will host its annual Earth Day celebration at the village hall/public works garage, 2301 E. Sand Lake Road, Saturday, April 25,

The event is an opportunity for residents to learn about environmental preservation and sustainability in a fun, family-oriented atmosphere and includes several vendors and activities geared toward sustainability and green living.

Community members are invited to join in a community cleanup starting at 9 a.m. At 10 a.m., the public can visit with various vendors and participate in kids' activities and refreshments in the public works garage. Several activities, including the Lindenhurst Park District's Flying for Kids kite fly at adjoining Slove Park, also will return for the annual event.

Attendees can tour the police department and talk with members of the environmental commission. Recycling opportunities, including clothing and textiles, shoes, hangers and a past bag exchange, will be available. Special guest entertainer Jack Kaufmann from In the Green Productions will perform at 11 a.m.

In conjunction with village events, the park district will host an Earth Day 5K walk/run. This free run begins at 9 a.m. at Millennium Park, 201 Country Place Lane. Visit www.lindenhurstparks.org for more details.

The Lindenhurst Environmental Commission plans and undertakes various projects related to the environment and beautification of the environment of the village, provides educational opportunities for residents to learn more about the environment and natural beauty of the area, and works with the village board to advance policies and procedures approved by the board.
