Softball: Lake County roundup
Karlee Busscher's second two-homer game in three contests led Mundelein's softball team to a 13-2 win in five innings over visiting Lake Forest in North Suburban Lake Division action Monday.
Busscher's 2 home runs gave for 5 for the season for the 10-2 Mustangs.
Maddie Zazas and Hannah Bulgart also homered for Mundelein. Bulgart finished 3-for-3, while Busscher, Kaitlyn Griffin and Jordyn West all went 2-for-3. Zazas was 2-for-4.
Breanna Adams pitched all 5 innings for the win, allowing 4 hits and 1 walk, while striking out four.
Carmel 10, Marian Central 0 (6): Jenny Behan was on fire. She went 3-for-3 at the plate with all 3 hits being home runs, and one was a grand slam. She rolled up 7 RBI. This was Behan's second 3-home run game of the season. The first was against Resurrection. Sarah Koesser added 2 hits, including a home run and a double, for Carmel. She drove in 3 runs. Winning pitcher Claire Petrus tallied 5 strikeouts in six innings.
Warren 10, Stevenson 0: Hannah Nommemsen earned the five-inning win, and Crystal Pennell went 4-for-4 to lead the Blue Devils' offense in the North Suburban Lake game.
Julienne Egofske was 3-for-4 with a double and triple for Warren (11-1), while Emily Hudgins went 2-for-3.
Vernon Hills 10, North Chicago 0: The Cougars rolled up 13 hits while not surrendering a hit to North Chicago. Izzy Cirone, Sara Lenzi, Sami Saliba and Sammi Hansen each had 2 hits for Vernon Hills. Nicole Pieper added a double. Winning pitcher Hannah Monteith went five innings and struck out 8 batters.
Vernon Hills 12, North Chicago 0: Vernon Hills finished with 11 hits and again limited North Chicago to no hits. Dani Comitor, Anna Cirone and Nicole Pieper each had 2 hits for the Cougars.
Lake Zurich 5, Libertyville 1: Amanda Guercio and Jessie Puccinelli each belted home runs for Lake Zurich. Both finished with 2 hits. Puccinelli drove in 3 runs and Guercio had 2 RBI. Winning pitcher Katie Malek had 8 strikeouts over seven innings. For Libertyville, Madi Dembinski had a double and Lyndsey Lyons drove in the only run.
Lakes 7, Round Lake 1: Ashley Horner and Rachel Becker had triples and Melanie Grupka had a double to lead Lakes to the win. Becker finished with a team-leading 3 hits while Horner and Grupka each had 2 hits. Winning pitcher Ally Perdue rolled up 9 strikeouts over seven innings. She also gave up only 1 hit. For Round Lake, Katie Bleim and Ashley Wegner each had a hit.
Jacobs 10, Grayslake Central 6: Melissa Obis had 3 hits, including a double, to lead Grayslake Central, which out-hit Jacobs 11-9 but had 5 errors.
McHenry 10, Grayslake North 6: A 6-run third inning keyed the victory for McHenry.
