Fremd frosh Kehoe keys split

The showdown between undefeated softball powers in Palatine on Saturday turned out to be a draw.

Fremd and St. Charles East, both 9-1, handed each other their first losses of the season in a doubleheader split.

The Saints won the opener 10-4 while Fremd came back to win the second game 11-3 behind freshman Nikki Kehoe, who raised her record to 4-0.

The rookie right-hander tossed a 6-hitter with 4 strikeouts.

The Fremd offense was led by No. 3 hitter Alyssa Garcia, who went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Another multiple hitter for the Vikes was junior first baseman Julia Wacker, who went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and 2 doubles.

Junior Holly Straup and senior Julie Josten each doubled for Fremd while shortstop Reagan Schneider belted a home run.

In Game 1, Vikings coach Jim Weaver used Hailey Goodwin, Lea Barrett and Jessica Mazur on the mound.

Garcia (2-for-4) and Wacker (2-for-2) were also multiple hitters in the opener.

Elk Grove sweeps Resurrection: The host Grens improved to 9-2 with 10-0 and 14-4 wins in six and five innings, respectively.

Sophomore Sabra Morton (6-0) threw a 3-hitter with 10 strikeouts in Game 1. She also went 2-for-2 at the plate and scored 3 runs.

Alex Masnica went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI for the Grens while teammate Sarah Pauscher (2-for-4, 3 RBI) belted a triple for the Grens while teammate Alex Masnica was 3-for-4, 3 RBI).

In Game 2, junior Anna Bonder won her second game without a loss by tossing a 7-hitter with 4 strikeouts.

Pauscher (2-for-4, 4 RBI) belted her fifth and sixth home runs of the season while Kylie Thomsen (2-for-4, double) hit her second. Brianna Leach also doubled for Elk Grove.

Other multiple hitters were Masnica (3-for-4) and Aleece Duffy (2-for-4, 4 RBI).

Conant sweeps: The defending Mid-Suburban League champs will start conference play on Monday at Prospect with a 6-1 record after stopping Lake Park 8-6 and 13-2 (5 innings) in Hoffman Estates.

Sophomore Sam Gadomski (2-0) earned the win in Game 1 with 6 strikeouts.

Hailey Rothstein, Dream Aaron and Lauren Grzelak (2-for-3, 2 RBI, double, 2 runs) each homered for the Cougars while DeeDee Durr was 3-for-4.

In Game 2, junior Sara Neuman (3-0) struck out seven and tossed a 3-hitter while also going 2-for-2 with 2 runs.

Durr went 4-for-4 with a home run, double and 3 RBI while Aaron had another home run.

Buffalo Grove splits: Buffalo Grove (6-1) won the opener 6-2 over visiting Lake Zurich before dropping a 12-1 decision in Game 2.

Julia Camardo threw a 7-hitter with 7 strikeouts to raise her record to 6-0 while the Bison offense was led by Katie Fontanetta (2-for-2, 2 runs) and Camardo (2-for-3, 2 runs, double).

Caitlin Catino, Dea Barton, Emily Carnes, Jasmine Avalos and Grace Gran each had a hit for BG, which opens defense of its MSL crown on Monday with visiting Palatine.

Wheeling drops two: Host Niles North swept the Wildcats 11-3 and 19-0 (five innings) in Skokie.

Nikki Mikosz and Karlie Orlando each had an RBI for Wheeling (0-4) while Lauren Hart had a double in the opener. Teammate Kaitlyn Schuetz went 2-for-3.

Hersey sweeps: Hersey (4-5) swept host Evanston 4-3 and 14-0 in six innings. Junior Kim Labahn (1-1) picked up the win in Game 1 while sophomore Kaitlyn Denten (3-4) did the ame in Game 2.

Prospect, Maine West split: Host Prospect (3-3) dropped the opener 13-11 and won 12-10 in Game 2.

Kayla Pociejewski (4-for-5, double, home run, 4 RBI), Katie Roycroft (2-for-4) and Jordan Hart (2-for-4, home run, double) and winning pitcher Grace Feldkamp (2-for-5, walk, 3 runs, RBI), led West in Game 1.

Casey Lenski (2-for-5, 4 RBI, 3-run homer), Delilah Malczewski (3-for-5), Jenny Krengiel (2-for-4, double, 2 RBI), Erica Nelson (2-for-3, walk) led the Knights (3-3), who once trailed 13-6. It was Lenski's third homer of the season.

"We had some innings today where things weren't going right at, but I was very proud that my girls will just never quit," said Prospect Coach Jim Adair.

In Game 2, Prospect rallied from a 6-0 deficit.

Rachel Trebswether (3-for-5, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Jenny Krengiel (2-for-4, walk, 3 runs), Alyssa Cacini (3-for-4, triple, 2 doubles, 2 walks, 5 RBI) and Cate Meersman (3 RBI) helped lead the offense.

Krengiel earned the victory in relief of Cacini and on the day, she was 4-for-8 at the plate.

Meadows drops two: Host Glenbard East won 9-5 and 2-0 in Lombard.

Megan King went 2-for-3 in Game 2 for the Mustangs while pitcher Lydia Schultz struck out seven. Paige Connor and Meghan Slowik also had hits for RM (1-7).

In Game 1, Schultz and Elizabeth Elkins each went 2-for-4 while Slowik also had a hut.

Lauren Hattory started Game 1 and had to be replaced in the fifth inning after suffering a knee injury.

"Other than our Maine West loss, we've had opportunities to win all of our games," said Tony Wolanski. "We're just struggling with one bad inning."

Schaumburg sweeps: The host Saxons improved to 5-1 with 11-1 (6 innings) and 13-0 (5 innings) victories over Glenbard West.

Leading the offense in Game 1 were Elaine Walker (2-3), winning pitcher Shannon Felde (4-for-5, 2 RBI), Paige Alt (3-for-4, double), Roxanne Kakareka (3-for-4), Sarah Schwind (2-for-4), Kaiden Jackson grand slam) and Natalie Napier (2-for-4, RBI). Felde (2-1) notched the win.

Paige Alt (3-0) earned the win in Game 2 as Walker (4-for-4, 2 doubles, home run, 2 RBI), Jackson (3-for-4, home run), 2 RBI, stolen base), Alt (3-for-3, home run, 2 RBI), Christina Candotti (3-for-4, double, RBI) led the offense.

Felde and Micaela EncarnaciĆ³n also had hits in the game.

Leyden Invitational: The host school won its own 2015 Eagle Invite by defeating Palatine (9-8), Glenbrook North (7-3) and Jacobs (3-2).

Palatine went 1-2, getting a 14-4 win over Glenbrook North. Ellie Kozlowski got her first start of the year and pitched a complete game, giving up 1 earned run and striking out six.

She was also 3-for-5 with a double, home run and 4 RBI. Freshman Maddie Craver was 4-for-5 with a triple, stolen base, 2 RBI and 3 runs.

Junior Victoria Parrott (3-for-5) also belted a home run into the stands at The Ballpark at Rosemont.

Craver and Erin Davis split the pitching in a 9-8 loss to Leyden. Parrott (2-for-3, triple, 2 RBI), Kozlowski (2-for-3, double, 4 RBI) and Craver (3-for-4, triple, 2 RBI, 1 run) led the offense.

In a 12-11 loss to Jacobs, Emily Griffin (2-for-4, 4 RBI), Craver (4-for-5, 3 RBI) and Cassie Kerlin (2-for-3, 2 RBI) led the Pirates' offense.

For the three games, Craver went 11-for-14 with 7 runs, 2 triples and 7 RBI.
