Softball: Lake County roundup

Maddie Zazas did what she does best, as the senior shortstop helped Mundelein's softball team sweep a nonconference doubleheader against visiting Johnsburg on Saturday.

Zazas, the school's all-time doubles leader, doubled three times in a six-inning, 13-3 win in Game 1. She had another double in the second game, as the Mustangs won 15-4 in five innings to improve to 9-2.

Karlee Busscher homered twice in the first game, while Jordyn West, Hannah Bulgart and Maggie Mahar also hit doubles for Mundelein. Meghan Ehemann hit a home run too. Zazas, Busscher and Mahar all finished 3-for-4, while Kaitlyn Griffin and Ehemann added a pair of hits each.

Breanna Adams pitched all 6 innings in earning the win. The freshman scattered 10 singles, struck out five and walked two.

Mundelein got seven doubles in the second game. Besides Zazas, winning pitcher Nicole Parney, West, Amanda Diaz, Griffin, Bulgart and Magar doubled. Adams tripled and finished 3-for-4.

Wauconda sweeps: Wauconda defeated Waukegan, 22-0, 13-0. In the first win, Anna Wisniewski and Kayla Wedl each hit home runs. In the second win, Taylor Lambert went 3-for-3 from the field.

Buffalo Grove 6, Lake Zurich 2: Vanessa DiVincenzo went 3-for-3 at the plate for Lake Zurich. Amanda Guercio added 2 hits for the Bears, including a double.

Lake Zurich 12, Buffalo Grove 1: Melissa Goldberg went 3-for-3 with 2 doubles to lead Lake Zurich. Vanessa DiVincenzo, Jessica Puccinelli and Sarah Schnecker each had 2 hits for the Bears. Katie Malek was the winning pitcher.

Lakes 10, Larkin 5: Melanie Grupka drilled 2 home runs to lead Lakes. She finished with 3 hits while teammates Molly Dietz and Ally Perdue each added 2 hits. Perdue was also the winning pitcher.

Round Lake 6, Woodstock 5: Ashley Wegner and Mike Crisantos each had 2 hits for Round Lake. Hayley Steinberg added a double. Wegner was also the winning pitcher. She had no walks in seven innings.

Round Lake 13, Woodstock 12: Kylie Bart, Hayley Steinberg and Amanda Olsen each had 2 hits to lead Round Lake, which rolled up 12 hits on the game. Steinberg and Ashley Wegner both doubled. Steinberg was the winning pitcher.
