Flint, Donovan combine on Bartlett shutout

Bartlett pitchers Jordan Flint and Shane Donovan combined to hold West Aurora scoreless on 4 hits and the offense pounded out 16 hits as the Hawks completed a 3-game sweep of an Upstate Eight Valley baseball series with a 9-0 victory on Friday.

Offensive leaders for Bartlett (5-3, 3-0) included Tripp Paris (3-3, 2B, RBI), Austin Hilvert (3-4, 2B, RBI), Myles Zilinsky (1-2, 3 RBI), Cory Krolikowski (2-4) and Michael Pfaender (1-3, 2 RBI).

South Elgin 7, Glenbard East 4: The Storm rallied for 2 runs in the third inning to take a 4-3 lead, thanks to Nick Menken's game-tying RBI groundout and Dylan Barry's hustle to beat out a dropped third strike that allowed Danny Asa to score the go-ahead run. Kyle Hays went 3-for-4 with a triple and drove in a run, Dane Toppel (RBI) finished 3-for-5 with a double and Asa went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI for South Elgin (6-0, 3-0), which swept the 3-game Upstate Eight Valley series. Austin Sayre earned the win by limiting the host Rams to 3 earned runs on 5 hits and a walk. He struck out a pair in 5 innings.

Elgin 14, Streamwood 3, 5 inn.: The Maroons won their second straight to win the rubber game of the 3-game Upstate Eight River series by exploding for 12 runs in the first three innings. That was more than enough support for pitcher Scotty Palmer, who allowed 3 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits and 4 walks. He struck out 6 in 5 innings. Offensive leaders for Elgin (5-6, 2-1) included Mike Gonazlez (2-4, 4 RBI), Andrew Hardt (2-3, 3 RBI), Dean Anderson (2-2, 2B), Clay White (2-3, 3 runs) and Palmer (2-3, 2B, RBI). Jonah Seckel took the loss for Streamwood (2-6, 1-2).

Larkin 10, West Chicago 5: Zach Edgar had 2 hits in 3 at-bats, including a double, and drove in 2 runs and Dan Lenz (2 RBI) and Jon Lenz (RBI) each finished with 2 hits to help Larkin (3-4, 1-2) salvage the final game of the 3-game Upstate Eight River series. Tanner Gardon picked up the win despite allowing 5 earned runs on 7 hits and 5 walks in 5 innings. He struck out 6.

Huntley 10, Belvidere North 6: Brandon Altergott homered for the second straight game and Brandon Meyer and Jake Liebman each went yard and drove in 2 runs to lead the Red Raiders to a nonconference road win. Winning pitcher Jake Lonergan allowed 3 earned runs on 5 hits and 2 walks and struck out 3 in 4 innings for Huntley (2-7).

Dundee-Crown 4, Crystal Lake Central 2: Jared Ludwig keyed a 3-run rally in the top of the sixth when he hit a go-ahead, 2-run double and later scored on a wild pitch. Danny Denz went the distance for Dundee-Crown (8-4, 3-0) to earn the win. He held the Tigers to 2 runs (1 earned) on 7 hits and 3 walks and struck out 6 to win this Fox Valley Conference crossover.

Cary-Grove 8, Grayslake Central 3: Leading by a run, the Trojans scored 3 runs in the top of the sixth and 2 more in the seventh to secure a Fox Valley Conference crossover road victory. Winning pitcher Larkin Hanselmann held the Rams to 3 runs (2 earned) by working around 6 hits and 6 walks. He struck out 5 in a 111-pitch, 6-inning effort. Jimmy Perkins went 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI and Willie Hartke doubled and drove in 2 runs for Cary-Grove (6-5-2, 3-0).

Burlington Central 7, North Boone 4: The Rockets snapped a 4-4, fourth-inning tie, courtesy of a run-scoring single by Andrew Wiss, and they added 2 runs in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Lauber and a single by John Murphy to win this Big Northern East road game. Winning pitcher Kevin Jerger allowed 3 earned runs on 6 hits and 3 walks and struck out 7 in 4⅔ innings for Burlington Central (8-1, 3-0).

Rockford Christian Life 3, Westminster Christian 2, 9 inn.: Tyler Schoemann's RBI single gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth, but Westminster walked the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning before surrendering a 2-run, walk off double. Losing pitcher Justin Rasmussen was relieved by Ian Merlak after walking two men in the ninth. Rasmussen was charged with 3 earned runs on 5 hits. In a 159-pitch outing that spanned 8-plus innings, he walked 8 and struck out 17.
