South Elgin takes control against Elgin

South Elgin 13, Elgin 3 (5 inn.): A 5-run third inning gave the Storm the lead for good in this U-46 clash. South Elgin (4-4, 2-1) pushed across 3 runs in the fourth inning and 4 in the fifth and totaled 17 hits. Alexa Rogalla belted 2 hits to go with a game-high 4 RBI, Cassidy Westlund (3-for-4, 2 RBI) scored 3 runs and Stacy Bellack went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI. Amber Derr (2-for-4) tallied 2 RBI and both Taylor Ford and Rachel Ziemba had 2 hits. Pitcher Rachel Weiss stymied the Maroons, who notched 6 hits, 5 off Weiss, who was charged with 2 earned runs on 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Sabrina Stockman had 2 hits and Jemiyah Stewart had 2 RBI for Elgin (0-10, 0-3).

Burlington Central 1, Genoa-Kingston 0: Central's Emily Kisch won a pitchers' duel on Rocket Hill. She allowed 5 hits, walked 5 and struck out 13 in Big Northern East action. Kisch, who also smacked 2 hits at the plate, threw 63 of her 101 pitches for strikes. The Rockets (4-3, 3-0) were lifted by 2 hits from Kassi Gaylor, who had the game's only RBI in the fifth.

CL South 8, Prairie Ridge 2: The Gators improved to 8-1 overall with a Fox Valley crossover win in this crosstown rivalry game. Hailee Massie (3-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) allowed just 6 hits and 2 runs (1 earned) with 6 walks and 5 strikeouts. Both Jenica Terry and Sam Burgard (2-for-3) homered, Carly Chovanec (2-for-4) tripled and Kim Woods doubled. Lauren Gauger (2-run single) and Taylor Kassell (2-for-5) also helped South total 13 hits.

Jacobs 5, Glenbrook North 3: Alexis Addante was credited for the win in the circle after she keyed the nonconference victory at the Leyden Invite in Rosemont with a go-ahead single in the seventh inning. Addante allowed 1 earned run on with 6 hits and 3 walks and struck out 2 in 7 innings. Katie Borchert's 2 hits were both triples, one of which scored Addante in the seventh. Sarah Murray, Emily Borg and Jess Mrzlak each drove in a run for Jacobs (3-6).

Huntley 3, CL Central 2: Tiffany Giese (2 RBI) and Jessica Shields (2 stolen bases) both logged singles in the Red Raiders' FVC crossover win. Pitcher Kateri Conklin went the distance and improved to 5-2, matching Huntley's overall record. Conklin struck out 8, allowed 2 hits, 2 runs (1 earned) while walking 3.

Larkin 19, East Aurora 0 (5 inn.): The Royals (1-7) grabbed their first win of the spring in emphatic fashion. Larkin pounded out 19 hits and tallied 13 runs in the third inning alone in Upstate Eight crossover action. Haley Hohne was 4-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI and Sophie Young (3-for-4) contributed 3 RBI. Jocelyn Jimenez (2 RBI) and Megan Chwee (RBI) each had 2 hits and scored 3 runs. Alexa Urbanik cranked 2 doubles and pitcher Emily Rojo allowed 1 run on 1 hit and struck out 6.

Grayslake Central 17, Dundee-Crown 15: In a wild FVC crossover battle that saw the lead change five times, including twice in the seventh inning, the Rams scored 4 runs in the bottom of the frame to win in walk off fashion. Despite their first loss, the Chargers (3-1) saw fireworks from Claire Weeks (1-for-5, RBI), Deanna Origer (3-for-5, 5 RBI) and Jessica McVicker (3-for-4, RBI). Each went yard as D-C totaled 16 hits. Sydney Ruggles suffered the loss in the circle but was 3-for-5 at the plate with 3 RBI. Isabell Rodriguez also had 2 hits and 2 RBI.

Waubonsie Valley 18, Streamwood 1 (5 inn.): The Sabres (3-7, 0-3) were outhit 13-3 over 5 innings of an Upstate Eight crossover loss. Waubonsie used a 15-run fifth to shorten matters and benefited from 4 home runs, including a grand slam from Layne Thresh, who was 2-for-4 with 5 RBI.
