Dolezal, Barrington blank Lakes

Barrington's softball team did all its work offensively in the second inning.

Senior Keenan Dolezal did the rest of the work on the pitcher's mound to record her eighth win of the spring with a 5-0 shutout of visiting Lakes at the Fields of Dreams on Friday.

The Fillies improved to 9-3 and will take that record into Monday's Mid-Suburban League opener at Rolling Meadows.

Dolezal (8-3) fired a 1-hitter with 8 strikeouts .

Highlighting the Fillies' 5-run second inning was an RBI double by Rachel Krzysko, a 2-run double by Kelly Katis and a sacrifice fly by Liz Sweeney.

Julie Magro was the Fillies' only multiple hitter as she went 2-for-3 and scored a run.

Elk Grove 22, Glenbard West 2 (5 inn): Host Elk Grove (7-2) exploded for 14 runs in the first inning as sophomore pitcher Sabra Morton (6-0) fired a 4-hitter with 5 strikeouts in the noncoference game.

Marjorie Sloan led the Grens' offense by going 4-for-5 with a double and 3 RBI while Brianna Leach was 3-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI. Haley Itzenthaler went 3-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI.

Nazareth 2, Prospect 1: Freshman Alyssa Cacini had a no-hitter until the seventh inning and struck out 10 for the visiting Knights (2-2) in LaGrange.

Nazareth Academy (6-2) had the bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the sixth but Cacini (0-1) struck out the side with full counts on every batter she faced.

Nazareth scored its 2 runs in the seventh with Mia Davis lining a single to center to score CJ Mardirosian for the game-winner in the nonconference game.

Offensively, Cacini led off the third inning with a triple down the left field line. She scored on Rachel Trebswether's infield single.

"I don't know what else you can ask of a high school softball player, let alone a freshman," said Prospect coach Jim Adair. "Seven innings, 10 strikeouts, 3 hits and a triple. Her performance in the sixth inning with the game on the line was amazing. My heart is still racing. And, she scored our only run.

"The rest of our team did a great job backing her up and we made a ton of great defensive plays. A few key hits by us here and there and it's a 6-2 game. It was a tough loss to a good team, but we'll learn from this."

Immaculate Conception 16, St. Viator 6 (5 inn): Jenna Breslin (RBI) and Cara Haubner each had 2 hits for the host Lions in the nonconference game.
