Des Plaines gas station robbed, clerk hit on head with gun

A gas station in the 800 block of West Oakton Street was held up and the clerk was assaulted about 2 a.m. today, police said.

The robber walked in and demanded money from the register while pulling a gun out of his left-front pocket and pointing it at the clerk, according the police report. The robber, using his left hand, struck the clerk on the top of his head with the gun and then left the store running eastbound through the parking lot. The loss was $35.

The robber was described as a Hispanic male, 5-foot-6, 180 pounds, wearing a light green hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, a black vest over the sweatshirt, a knit hat and a black scarf or balaclava covering his lower face, black pants, leather dress shoes or boots and gray gloves.
