Model profile: Herrick Woods

M/I Homes recently celebrated the grand opening of Herrick Woods, a new community of 74 attached club homes surrounded by natural areas in West suburban Warrenville.

Homebuyers will enjoy maintenance-free living with landscaping, exterior upkeep and snow removal provided, allowing them more time for family and to pursue other activities.

The community offers three floor plans with two to three bedrooms, 2½ baths, full basements and two-car garages. Plans also offer first-floor master suites, dens, second-floor laundry rooms and lofts.

These club homes offer flexible space that is adaptable to various lifestyles, and they appeal to a broad range of buyers from families who like being close to the middle school to retirees who want easy access to recreational amenities, said Cheryl Bonk, vice president of sales and marketing for M/I Homes.

The community sits near the Herrick Lake Forest Preserve and is a short drive from the Morton Arboretum, Cantigny Park and Arrowhead Country Club.

The featured Columbus model is priced from $357,990 and features 2,196 square feet. With interior design by Mary Cook & Associates of Chicago, the home shows blue, taupe and creams with a lot of texture and subtle Craftsman-inspired trim work and detailing. The classic style has a relaxed, elegant feel.

The home has a spacious feel with an open design, a lot of windows and 9-foot ceilings on the first floor.

From the large foyer, one enters the casual living space where the family room features a vertical wainscoting wall treatment and whimsical larger scale paisley draperies. Seating surrounds the fireplace for a nice conversation area.

The kitchen features white maple cabinetry and white tile backsplash that contrasts with the dark wood flooring and dark countertops. Stainless-steel appliances give the room some sparkle while a glass-fronted cabinet adds interest. The sink overlooks the whole living space and even the deck and outdoors. A breakfast bar and table for six provide plenty of seating.

Upstairs, the loft shows a work-at-home arrangement. This space has a regal, rich upscale library feel with a deep navy wall, plaid draperies, desk and tasking table.

A deep tray ceiling with chandelier crowns the master bedroom, and soft light draperies dress the windows. A white quilted cover tops the bed along with an array of pillows, and a lounge chair sits at the foot of the bed. The private bath features a walk-in closet and large doorless shower with seat and sprays.

The second bedroom also features a deep tray ceiling with chandelier, bed with fabric headboard and blue cover. A love seat is a nice spot for reading, and a trunk sits at the foot of the bed. This bedroom also has a private bath with higher vanities and dual sinks.

The lower level with an available walkout option shows a game room with custom built-ins, a bar area and a pool table, but with its flexibility, it could also serve as a workout area, home office or playroom for kids.

Two other designs include The Danbury from $374,990 with 2,111 square feet and The Dearborn from $389,990 with 2,098 square feet.

To visit the model home at 27W161 Breme Drive E, take I-88 and exit at Winfield Road. Turn right and right again on Ferry Road and continue onto Warrenville Road. Turn left on Herrick Road and the community is on the left.

Sales hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Saturday; 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday and by appointment Wednesday and Thursday.
