Celebrate bewitching Walpurgis Night in Schaumburg

Walpurgis Night - a magical time when witches gather on the highest peak of the Harz Mountain range in Lower Saxony, Germany, to celebrate spring and the coming planting season.

Traditionally, Walpurgis Night is held April 30, and that's what will happen from 6-8 p.m. at the Schaumburg Park District's Volkening Heritage Farm, 201 S. Plum Grove Road.

"This is going to be a fun event for visitors to learn about an old tradition," said Patty Kennedy, farm program coordinator. "Most people relate witches to Halloween but now we get to learn about witches in April."

The night will also feature wagon rides and roasted hot dogs and marshmallows on a bonfire.

The cost is $7 per person; children 3 and younger are free.

Additional parking is in the far back lot at St. Matthew's Church, 1001 E. Schaumburg Road.
