CLC to view the sky with Astronomy Day events

View the sky through powerful telescopes and enjoy a variety of educational activities on Astronomy Day Saturday, April 25, at the College of Lake County. All activities are free and open to all ages.

Activities are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. During the evening, a star party will be from 7-10 p.m.

Daytime activities will include solar observing through specially-equipped telescopes, comet-making demonstrations and a walking tour of a scale model of the solar system. Displays will be available on a variety of topics, and children of all ages can enjoy astronomy-based activities and get free stickers and glow sticks.

New this year is a telescope clinic and a prize drawing for a chance to win astronomy-related prizes.

During the evening star party, a range of telescopes will be available for participants to view the moon, Saturn and its rings, Jupiter with its four moons, stars and other night sky wonders. The evening star party is weather dependent.

Though telescopes will be available, members of the general public are welcome to bring their own binoculars and telescopes. The event is part of a nationwide astronomy observance.

Astronomy Day is sponsored by the Lake County Astronomical Society and CLC's Engineering, Math and Physical Sciences division. Events will be held in and around the Technology Building at the CLC Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St.
