The College of DuPage Women's Studies Committee has named Sally Wiarda its 2015 Adade Wheeler Woman of Distinction Award recipient.

Wiarda was honored at a reception at the College on Thursday, March 19, which featured guest speaker Yoko Sekino-Bové, a Pittsburg-based prominent ceramic artist. She is founder of the DuPage Chapter of 100+ Women Who Care, an organization whose mission is to reach out and make a difference in our own communities through collective giving.

Wiarda launched the group in DuPage County in February 2007. Since its launch, the DuPage county 100+ Women Who Care has raised more than $320,000 for needs in DuPage County. Wiarda has mentored other women who have gone on to start eight additional chapters in the Chicago area.

The Woman of Distinction Award, given annually since 1983, recognizes residents, workers or volunteers within Community College District 502 who have made significant contributions to the personal and professional advancement of women through education, advocacy and motivation.
