Lightning strike causes attic fire in Algonquin home

Lightning struck the roof of an Algonquin home Thursday morning causing a minor attic fire, officials said.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District responded around 6:50 a.m. to a two-story home on Circle Drive.

Arriving crews found a light haze showing from the roof. The fire was extinguished by 7:10 a.m., though crews remained at the scene until 8:30 a.m. investigating, ventilating the home and checking for fire extension.

The home was occupied at the time of the fire. All occupants escaped without injury, officials said.

No firefighters or civilians were hurt. A damage estimate was not available Thursday morning.

Firefighters from Carpentersville, Crystal Lake, Fox River Grove, Huntley, Cary, East Dundee and Palatine Rural Fire Departments, and the McHenry County Sheriff's Department assisted.
