Naperville man committed for attack on mother
A Naperville man accused of attacking his mother with a butcher knife in 2011 has been committed to a mental health institution for 25½ years.
Alexander Georg, 31, was ruled not guilty by reason of insanity during a Feb. 24 hearing. But a report from Dr. Nageswararao Vallabhaneni, of the Illinois Department of Human Services, recommended Georg continue to receive mental health treatment on an inpatient basis.
He has been in custody since Aug. 11, 2011, and would be eligible for release on Feb. 10, 2037.
Georg previously was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and was deemed unfit for trial in December 2011. He received treatment at a downstate mental health facility and was restored to fitness in the fall of 2012 - but his mental health deteriorated when he returned to jail and refused his medication, according to a Feb. 14, 2013, evaluation.
The charges against Georg included attempted murder, aggravated battery and aggravated domestic battery in the August 2011 stabbing of his then-52-year-old mother. He had just been released from psychiatric care when he chased her into the street in front of their home on Spring Garden Circle in Naperville and repeatedly stabbed her in the chest and neck, authorities said.
The attack happened in broad daylight, just moments after Georg's mother offered him a sandwich, according to prosecutors.
According to court records, Georg is now being held at the Chester Mental Health Center.
His case is next up in court at 9 a.m. on July 14 a status update on his treatment by the state department.
