Philharmonic virtuosos to perform May 3

At 3 p.m. Sunday, May 3, the Fox Valley Philharmonic Orchestra will present a free concert featuring a broad spectrum of virtuosic music. Three solo performances with orchestral accompaniment are featured.

The Fox Valley Academy Concerto Competition winner, 16-year-old Clare Scheidler of Aurora, will perform Vivaldi's violin concerto, "La Stravaganza," and competition runner-up, 9-year-old Sofia Radovic of St. Charles, will perform Vivaldi's well-known, Concerto in A minor. In addition, virtuosic pianist, Kevin Wong of Chicago will delight the audience with Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto No. 2.

The concert also will feature the Philharmonic Winds in Joachim Raff's "Sinfonietta," a work profoundly influenced by the compositional style of his 19th-century contemporary, Mendelssohn.

The Philharmonic Orchestra is the Fox Valley Academy of Music Performance's community orchestra under the direction of Maryann Flock. The Academy Orchestra and Youth Strings also will perform classical works at a 1 p.m. concert.

The concert will be at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1145 N. Fifth Ave., St. Charles, with plenty of parking available.

Admission to the concert is free; but, donations are welcomed.
