Gross, Lakes roll past Vernon Hills

Lakes 16, Vernon Hills 6 (5 inn.): Bryan Gross was 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI, Lakes' baseball team scored 8 runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to a 16-6 win over Vernon Hills in North Suburban Prairie Division action Wednesday.

Jeremy Mackey (2-1) was the beneficiary of the run support for Lakes (4-4-1, 2-0), as he pitched 4 innings, allowing just 1 earned run and 1 hit. He walked four and struck out one.

Zach Meyer was 1-for-2 with a double and 2 RBI for the Eagles.

Vernon Hills scored four times in the fifth to pull within 9-6, before Lakes ended the game by plating 7 runs in the bottom of the inning.

Matt Paszko had 2 hits for Vernon Hills.

Stevenson 13, Libertyville 5: Pat Loeffler was 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored for the visiting Patriots, who avenged their North Suburban Lake loss from a day earlier.

Stevenson (6-2, 1-1) got 2-for-4 efforts from Willie Bourbon (double, 2 RBI) and Christian Dutler (2 RBI). Tyler Pauly (2-0) pitched 5 innings for the win.

Libertyville (5-3, 1-1) received doubles from Riley Lees, Jimmy Govern and Ben Kimpler.

Warren 10, Zion-Benton 0: Winning pitcher Ryan Davila and Christian Caban combined on a five-inning 2-hit shutout in the North Suburban Lake game.

Warren (10-3, 2-0) received 2 hits apiece from Brad Zahn (2 RBI), Michael Rosenberg (double), Andrew Hill (double, 2 RBI) and Jake Falish (double, 2 RBI).

Crystal Lake Central 4, Carmel 2: The visiting Tigers scored twice in the fourth to erase a 1-0 deficit and added two more runs in the sixth of the nonconference game.

Six players had one hit apiece for Carmel, which got its lone RBI from Eddie Pietschman.

Garrett McClellan suffered the loss, allowing all 4 runs, all of which were unearned, in 6 innings of work.

Grayslake North 9, Huntley 1: On Tuesday, sophomore Pat Schaefer pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing 1 run, 4 hits and 5 walks, while striking out four, as the visiting Knights picked up the Fox Valley Conference win.

George Deligiannis led Grayslake North offensively, going 3-for-4 with an RBI double and a run-scoring single. Drake Isaacs was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Knights, who also got an RBI double from Danny Yates and a sacrifice fly from Jake Damore.
