Camardo keeps Buffalo Grove unbeaten

Senior Julia Camardo fired a 2-hitter with 11 strikeouts in a 4-0 shutout over visiting Cary-Grove on Wednesday to keep the Buffalo Grove softball team - and herself - undefeated at 5-0.

Camardo's junior receiver Emily Carnes came up with the game-winning RBI in the first inning with a one-out, 2-run double to right-center to score Caitlin Catino and Katie Fontanetta.

Senior Dea Barton's 2-run single to center with one out in the fifth inning made it 4-0. Catino and Fontanetta once again crossed the plate and both finished with 1 hit.

One day earlier, BG sophomore Jasmine Avalos belted 2 home runs, including a grand slam when the Bison defeated Loyola 15-5.

Avalos went 2-for-3 in the game with 6 RBI.

Schaumburg 9, Lake Zurich 1: Saxons junior Paige Alt (2-0) picked up the win and went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI for the visiting Saxons (4-1).

Other multiple hitters for Schaumburg were Elaine Walker (2-for-3), Kaiden Jackson (2-for-4, double) and Shannon Felde (2-for-3), who belted 2 home runs.

Christina Candotti (double), Natalie Napier (RBI) and Roxanne Kakareka (RBI) also had hits for Schaumburg.

Elk Grove 11, Oswego 5: Sophomore Sabra Morton added another win to her team best 5-0 pitching record. This one came in relief as she threw the final two innings and struck out the side in the seventh as the Grens rallied from a 5-4 deficit.

Elk Grove (6-2) scored all its runs in the first (4) and sixth (7) innings.

Junior Sarah Pauscher (2-for-4) hit two 2-run homers in each inning, giving her four for the season.

Senior Brianna Leach also homered for EG.

Other multiple hitters for the hosts were Hayley Itzenthaler (2-for-3, double), and Alex Masnica (2-for-4).

Mundelein 14, Prospect 9: Prospect (2-1) was led on offense by Casey Lenski (3-for-5, 2 home runs), Alyssa Cacini (3-for-5, double, 2 runs), Rachel Trebswether (4-for-5) and Delilah Malczewski (2-for-4, 4 RBI).

Lenski's 3-run homer got Prospect to within 12-9 before Mundelein added 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth.

"Mundelein has some great hitters, there's no doubt about it," said Prospect coach Jim Adair. "This was our first game in 18 days, so, in a way, it seemed like our first game of the season. If you score 9 runs, you should win the game. I liked the way we battled back but you can never make 5 errors, give up a grand slam, and expect to win the game."

Addison Trail 11, Rolling Meadows 5: Amanda Elkins (2-for-4, double), Mallory King (2-for-3, RBI), Paige Connor (triple, 2 RBI) and Jordan Giachetti (2-for-4) were top hitters for Meadows (1-6) in the nonconference game in Roselle.

Willowbrook 14, Wheeling 3: Senior Nikki Mikosz had a triple while teammates Megan Olsen and Lauren Hart each had a RBI for Wheeling (0-2) in the nonconference game.
