Upset for incumbent Franklin in Lisle District 202 race

Lisle Unit District 202 voters showed a desire for change Tuesday, pushing two newcomers over the top and re-electing just one incumbent.

With all precincts counted, challengers Joanne Haldeman and Wendy Nadeau received the most votes with 925 and 872, respectively, unofficial results showed. Four candidates were seeking three open seats but incumbent Darryl Franklin fell short with 657 votes while fellow board member Anne Chang-Blaeske squeaked by with 663.

Haldeman, who is president of the Lisle High School Home and School Organization, credited her win to her time as a volunteer.

"I hope that's why people voted for me," she said. "They see me around, I believe in our schools and our kids."

Chang-Blaeske said she was still processing the results. "It's a small town and connections matter," she said.

"I look forward to working with Wendy and Joanne. They'll bring a lot of new ideas to the board. It was a very worthy field (of candidates)."
