Trustee, former firefighter to be honored by Bartlett Fire Protection District

The Bartlett Fire Protection District will honor Trustee John Whitmer for his nearly 50 years of service with a presentation of the color guard Saturday morning.

The district also will formally dedicate a display of steel from the World Trade Center.

Whitmer began his career as a paid on-call firefighter in June 1959. He rose through the ranks, becoming deputy chief in July 1974 until he was appointed to the district's board of fire commissioners in November 1994. He was elected as a district trustee in March 1997.

"Trustee Whitmer's service to the Bartlett community is truly irreplaceable," Fire Chief Mike Falese said in a news release.

The ceremony runs from 9 to 11 a.m. at the district's Station No. 1, 234 N. Oak Ave. For details, call (630) 837-3701.
