Huntley High arts boosters host talent show Sunday

More than 24 students representing Huntley High School's various arts programs will perform in the "What a Wonderful World … Festival of the Arts" talent show Sunday.

It's the 15th year for the talent show, organized by the fine arts boosters of Huntley High School.

"It's a completely different show than it was last year," said Tami Dillon, fine arts boosters president.

The show is scheduled 3 to 5:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at the high school, 13719 Harmony Road. It will include color guard, dance, art, speech, theater, vocalists and band (rock, jazz, and percussion) performers sharing one stage.

"Our vision of the show was to mainly have the representation of all of our arts groups," said Dillon, whose sophomore daughter participates in color guard and band. "What we were trying to do was just kind of show our audience that the arts are all around us, every day ... (and) without all the arts what a wonderful world it wouldn't be."

Proceeds from the show will benefit the high school's fine arts programs and help pay for original sheet music, choir uniforms, theater group costumes, art supplies, and travel expenses to competitions, such as the speech team's upcoming summer trip to nationals.

"That's our goal to help those kids get to the national competition," Dillon said. "We're hoping to raise about $3,500 this year. The more money that we raise, the more we can help our teachers with the extra items."

The Performing Arts Center seats roughly 630 people.

"Our goal is to pack the PAC," Dillon said.

The show includes special performances by the high school color guard, jazz band, Orchesis dance club, and The Rhythem Section, along with guest performers McDancers, of the Rebecca McCarthy School of Dance.

Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door 45 minutes before the show. For a complete list of participants, visit huntleyfinearts.com.
