Straup, Fremd keep the power flowing
Fremd's big offensive start to this softball season - averaging 14 runs per game - has seen the Vikings belt 8 home runs.
Half of them belong to catcher Holly Straup.
The Vikings junior catcher hit her fourth on Tuesday while also 2-for-4 with a double, 3 RBI and 2 runs as Fremd topped host Jacobs 9-6 in Algonquin.
Coach Jim Weaver's squad remained the only unbeaten Mid-Suburban West team as it hiked its record to 7-0.
Straup's homer was a two-run blast with two outs in the first inning.
Lea Barrett notched her third win of the season, striking out six and walking two in the complete-game effort.
Other top hitters for Fremd were Abby Iuorio (3-for-3, 1 run), Alyssa Garcia (3-for-4, 3 runs) and Julie Josten (double).
Prairie Ridge 6, Palatine 5: Freshman Maddie Craver (3-for-4, 2 runs, RBI) and sophomore Brooke Bauer (2-for-3, double, walk, 2 RBI) led the offense for the Pirates (2-5). Pitcher Erin Davis (1-4) took the loss.
Addison Trail 7, Rolling Meadows 2: Lauren Hattory, Jordan Giachetti, Paige Connor and losing pitcher Lydia Schultz (double) had the 4 hits for visiting Rolling Meadows (1-5) in ther non coference.
