Wagner powers another Antioch win

Sophomore Annie Wagner was 4-for-4 in the North Suburban Prairie Division game, as Antioch's softball team kept winning with a 13-2 decision over Vernon Hills on Tuesday.

Antioch (7-1, 3-0) received 2 hits apiece from Taylor Schiltz (RBI, stolen base), Jessica Pedersen (RBI), Ashley Stephens (3 RBI) and Jill Foote (2 RBI, stolen base). Hannah Skoog and Stephens tripled, while Pedersen and Jill Everett doubled.

Hannah Cook earned the win, pitching 4 1/3 innings and striking out four.

Vernon Hills fell to 0-2 in the NSC Prairie.

Wauconda 17, Round Lake 7: Sophomore Mallory Carver went 4-for-5, and Anna Wisniewski was 3-for-4, as the Bulldogs cruised in their North Suburban Prairie opener.

Winning pitcher Hayley Redmann (4-1) struck out 10 and walked two in 4⅔ innings. Kayla Wedl got the final four outs, striking out four, to notch the save, as Wauconda (6-4) pushed its margin to 10 runs by scoring seven times in the bottom of the sixth.

Wedl (2-for-2) and Brooke Sefcik doubled for the Bulldogs. Taylor McCarthy was 2-for-2 and was on base four times in as many plate appearances.

Round Lake got 2 hits apiece from Katie Bliem (RBI), Mike Crisantos (3 RBI) and Raven Nicoline (RBI), each of whom had a double.

Zion-Benton 11, Lake Zurich 8: The Bears lost their North Suburban Lake opener, despite a big day at the plate from Amanda Guercio.

Guercio went 4-for-5 with a double, triple and 2 RBI. Lake Zurich got 2 hits apiece from Brittney Pettinger (double, 3 RBI), Sarah Schnecker (RBI) and Rachel Dawson (2-for-2, 2 walks). Jessica Puccinelli doubled and knocked in a run.

Zion-Benton got a home run from Alicya Rios and 2 hits apiece from Stephanie Munda, Janie Torola, Claire Crane, Allison Lopez (4 RBI) and Amara Leith.

Lakes 14, Vernon Hills 9: On Monday, Melanie Grupka homered, doubled and went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI, and Molly Dietz was 4-for-5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI for the Eagles in their North Suburban Prairie opener.

Lakes also got doubles from Karlie Rotunno (2-for-5, 3 RBI) and Ally Perdue (2 RBI) and a triple from Rachel Becker. Winning pitcher Perdue allowed 2 earned runs in 4 innings.

Vernon Hills received 3-for-5 efforts from Dana Meline and Anna Cirone. Sara Lenzi was 2-for-4 with a double, while Carly Stern and Izzy Cirone also had 2 hits apiece for the Cougars.
