214@100: The year of 'Vamos Gatos!'

For many years, Wheeling athletics sought a "Cinderella" story: one team or individual whose success would boost the success of other Wheeling sports. They got it in 2013, with one of the most exciting seasons in recent memory. The 2013 varsity boys soccer team had a brilliant regular season, before they advanced to the state final game and finished second in state. Along the way the team and its players captured the imagination of not just the school but soccer fans all around the area.

"The 2013 season was an incredible achievement," said Neal Weiner, boys athletic director. "All of our athletics benefitted from the positive feedback, and it created a positive atmosphere among the student body."
